Program Rules and Structure

The Giving Tree is 12 -Step based. Meetings are required, but residents may choose the types of meetings and days and times that work for them. We honor all 12-step based recovery models. The Giving Tree also provides onsite groups, including guided meditation, art therapy and Codependency Anonymous. There is an eclectic erray of resources and activities available within walking distance of our house. We encourage women to attend yoga, paddling or sober softball and anything else they might be interested in participating or learning about.

The Giving Tree has a zero drug and alcohol use policy. All residents are breathalyzed every evening upon check in and tested through their urine for up to 15 drugs of common abuse. Our standard testing protocol is every 3 days. The Giving Tree takes pride in its testing procedures and has found it can also help psychologically as prevention. We run a clean house. 

All medications are kept in the office and residents obtain a 24-hour supply of any medications daily upon their evening check in. Some medications such as birth control and antibiotics may be kept on one's person, but all medications must be pre-approved without exception, including over the counter medications.

The Giving Tree's mission is to assist women in building a foundation for long-term recovery. Therefore, most women work or attend school. Residents may have a car, cell phone, laptop or anything else they may need to participate in 'normal life'. In the beginning most residents are looking for employment. We want to support you in your goals. Women can stay as long as they want to, provided they maintain their sobriety and basic house etiquette. Ongoing testing and 12-step meeting participation is required for long term residents.

New residents have a 6:30pm check in and a curfew of 9:30pm. Overnight passes are allowed with approval after 30 days in residency. The regular curfew for residents is 10:30pm. There are curfew exceptions. If you have a question, please just ask.
